A bespoke coaching programme created in partnership with Farmfoods

Farmfoods logoFarmfoods is a unique business in the UK’s national grocery market. Founded in 1955 in Aberdeen, the retailer is family owned and controlled, operating 330 stores and employing 4500 people. They offer sensational value to customers on a tight range of everyday family orientated goods, backed-up by ‘old-fashioned’, genuine and friendly customer service.

In 2014 Farmfoods launched an award-wining e-learning programme for their branch managers as part of a broad learning and development programme. The companion piece to this was to be a coaching programme that supported and developed the Area Manager cohort.

Crisp Professional Development were introduced to Farmfoods by their e-learning partner, Sponge UK. After a full consultation process that involved meetings with the Managing Director, Training Manager and branch and area managers, Crisp recommended a nine-day programme of team coaching, supported by e-learning materials and a reference manual written by Farmfoods.

Ronnie Morgan, Farmfoods training manager comments:

‘From the beginning it was a real collaboration. We were not interested in an off-the-shelf, management training package. Rather we worked in partnership with the team at Crisp to co-create content and agree an approach for the face-to-face sessions that reflected our company values and the desire to support and develop our area managers.’

The programme, called You are in control, was launched at the National Space Centre in Leicester in January 2015 by George Herd, MD of Farmfoods. He adds;

‘The feedback from our managers has been positive. We are three sessions into the programme and are already seeing small changes in behaviour and raised levels of awareness that are beginning to have a positive impact. This is part of long-term, organisational-wide evolution to ensure Farmfoods continues to best serve its customers and employees.’

Shaun Durham, Managing Director of Crisp says;

‘It is a genuine pleasure to work with Farmfoods who are so invested in supporting their people.  So far our coaches have travelled around the UK – from Cumbernauld to Cardiff - working with and meeting the Farmfoods team. Along the way we’ve had many stimulating conversations, been introduced to wonderful people and sampled some great recipes. We look forward to continuing the partnership throughout 2016 and beyond’.
