Embedding a value and belief system for an exciting new Devon venture
Seaton Jurassic is Devon Wildlife Trust's first flagship visitor attraction and tells the story of the Jurassic Coast, bringing to life the extraordinary geology and unlocking the secrets of the past.
Mike Ruiter, Manager of Seaton Jurassic, was tasked with bringing together a team of staff and volunteers to manage it's new visitor centre. He approached Crisp Professional Development to discuss his requirements;
"Opening our visitor attraction included recruiting a team of over 100 staff and volunteers with widely varying roles and backgrounds. We wanted to create a culture of inclusivity and excellence from the get go, to ensure that both our team and our customers would have a great experience at Seaton Jurassic. We approached Crisp to develop an induction programme focussed on values and beliefs, instead of skills. Shaun and Roselle understood exactly what we needed and suggested workshops for our teams that would embed these values at the core of our organisation.
The workshops engaged all staff and volunteers and many of my team commented on the quality of the coaches as well as the content of the exercises. It has enabled us to create a strong team with all the associated values.
Now, several months since the workshops, our staff and volunteers are demonstrating exactly the kind of values we had hoped for. There is a real culture of inclusivity and everyone strives for excellence every day. For me, the biggest evidence of success has been the way that new starters have adopted the same values.
