“Emotional intelligence is a way of recognizing, understanding, and choosing how we think, feel, and act. It shapes our interactions with others and our understanding of ourselves.”
When you’re stressed, aggravated, and overwhelmed, how do you react? Do you start panicking or yelling, or do you take a deep breath and calm yourself down? What about when others experience strong emotions? Can you identify those feelings and understand why they’re happening, or do you jump to conclusions?
Those with high emotional intelligence are aware of both their emotions and the emotions of others. And—with that understanding—they manage their reactions and create positive interactions. It’s a competency that leads to success both inside and outside the office, and for leaders, it’s a necessary skill to develop.
The EQi 2.0 is a scientifically valid (reliable and verifiable) tool developed by Dr Reuven Bar-On, one of the early proponents of emotional intelligence.
Because what we call emotional intelligence is a set of learned collective behaviours, we can change these behaviours. A coach will use the EQi2.0 profile as a starting point to develop a programme of self development.
