ILM Level 5 Coaching and Mentoring
Our ILM Level 5 Coaching and Mentoring Certificate is available as both an open course, when numbers reach 4+ and in-house training, for your team only.
This professional qualification is designed for leaders, managers, HR professionals and individuals wishing to develop a coaching practice grounded in an understanding of the principles and concepts of Coaching and Mentoring.
Available to company cohorts and to individuals, this programme combines practical experience, one-to-one tutorial support, directed learning and self-study, to enable learners to complete this well recognised qualification, alongside their personal and work commitments.
Throughout the ILM Level 5 Coaching and Mentoring course, learners will explore the purpose and impact of workplace coaching and gain an understanding of the role, responsibilities, behaviours and characteristics of an effective coach. By conducting their own coaching practice, they will also apply their theoretical understanding of coaching models, tools, techniques and strategies, in order to complete the programme ready to use coaching in everyday management or as career pathway.

The ILM Level 5 Coaching and Mentoring programme includes:
- Group directed learning sessions with an experienced Coach practitioner
- Learning resources for 3 ILM modules
- One-to-one tutorial support
- Requirement to complete written assignments and submit a portfolio for assessment
- Practice and record 18 hours of work-place coaching
The three mandatory units consist of:
- Understanding the Skills, Principles and Practice of Effective Coaching and Mentoring within an Organisational Context
- Undertaking Effective Coaching or Mentoring within an Organisational Context
- Reviewing Own Ability as a Coach or Mentor within an Organisational Context
The course takes place over a structured period, combining directed learning, tutorial support and self-study. Coaching is conducted alongside the programme and assignments are completed at your own pace. Dedicated tutorial support is provided throughout the course and all candidates are eligible for student membership of the ILM, with access to a wealth of additional online resources.
