Bespoke Development, Leadership & Management
As companies move away from command and control structures, and the expectations of how employee’s want to be ‘managed’ has shifted, how a leader develops their people also needs to change. The ‘telling’ approach, based on top-down authority, should only be used in a limited set of circumstances. Now, the leader is required to coach.
Coaching has been described as “the art of facilitating the learning and development of another” (Myles Downey 2003). This course seeks to place coaching firmly within the leadership context by giving the leader a toolkit of skills and behaviours to effectively challenge and support their teams.
This approach is fundamental to organisations that want to create a widespread and embedded coaching culture.
This coaching skills training course is highly participative. Most of your time will be spent practicing and reflecting upon coaching as a leadership approach. You will build upon your basic coaching knowledge to develop a deeper coaching practice.
“You cannot teach a man anything. You can only help him discover it within himself.”

We start by reviewing the coaching and mentoring basics before placing these skills in the organisational context. How do you lay the groundwork for coaching by preparing your teams for this approach? We then spend time practicing the techniques required to effectively operate as leader as coach.
